Report from Canterbury Faire

On the Friday of Canterbury Faire, 14-23 January, there was a meeting of the Fibre Guild.

The meeting began with a show and tell of the diverse projects of those present. Spinning, weaving, dyeing, tablet weaving, naalbinding, fingerloop and sprang were all represented and I have probably forgotten some since I was not clever enough to take notes.

Turning to more administrative matters, one member asked whether there was the possibilty of some of her work being graded at the event.  There was nobody qualified to do so and most members present confessed to no knowledge that the guild had a grading system. Teffania filled us in on the history of the situation which was that grading had unofficially (?) been put on hold until the guild was more active, although it is still advertised on the website.

Speaking of the website, your extremely inactive webmaster (myself) promised to leap into action finally, beginning with porting the site to WordPress, which is underway now.

A plan evolved to have fibre activities as part of Southron Gaard’s regular schedule of A&S activities.  There is also some plotting regarding another String Day in Christchurch which we hope may also be attractive to those from other parts of the country (those from further afield also welcome, of course)

Inspired by the new “clean crafts area”  in the Artisan’s setup, and some A&S classes this year which ran in a series over multiple days, the suggestion was made to next year have a series of “have a go” sessions focusing on different disciplines of the guild.
